Workshop for ministry workers

At the inter-organisation Bible Translation Gathering in February it was obvious that Bible translation in Australia is being slowed by the lack of workers available to support Aboriginal translators. I thought if we could train ministry workers already working in remote communities in the very basics of Bible translation, then they might be able to provide at least administrative/computer support to local translators. Bible Society ran with the idea and organised a week-long workshop in partnership with Wycliffe, AuSIL and Nungalinya College. We covered the basic process of Bible translation as well as topics such as computer programs, Bible translation history and theory, and the grammar of Aboriginal languages. In the end, we only got a few participants who are already working remotely, but we had several others who are interested in pursuing Bible translation in the future, and 3 Gomeroi people, a language from NSW, who are exploring the possibility of Bible translation. It was a diverse group which made for an interesting week of discussions, which will hopefully continue into the future.

Pray with me that God will use the workshop training and discussions to grow all the participants and trainers, and to further Bible translation. And pray that God will continue to raise up workers to support Aboriginal Bible translators.
