What is the greatest need?

A question for our team conference

We had our team conference at the beginning of August. By 'team' I mean members of AuSIL – the Australian Society for Indigenous Languages. Most of us are members of Wycliffe, plus there are a few volunteers, and we all work with Indigenous Australians or in Timor-Leste.

It was a great opportunity to hear what everyone has been up to, and discuss other things, such as recruitment. I asked everyone, if we had one new worker, willing to do anything, what would you say is the greatest need? It's a tough question because every language would benefit from a(nother) person helping in so many ways. But here are some of the things people said.

  • Digital support (websites, apps, digital archives)

  • Bookshop workers in Darwin & Alice Springs

  • Office managers for Darwin & Timor-Leste

  • Scripture engagement (discipleship) in various languages

  • Translation advisors in various languages (Australia and Timor)

  • Translation and Scripture engagement worker in one

  • Updating old translations where language has changed

  • Cape York languages research

  • Aboriginal English research

  • Audio recording

Give thanks for 4 new members who joined us recently or plan to join us in 2025. Pray for good training and support in their roles, and that God will continue to bring more workers.
