Why was the training called TCDW?

Acronyms can be so useful when everyone knows what they mean, but it wasn't until the course started that I gave in and googled TCDW – Translation Consultant Development Workshop. It's no wonder they use an acronym... The workshop was 3 weeks of training that I did recently as the first step to becoming a translation consultant. A consultant does the final check of someone else's Bible translation to make sure that it's clear and accurate. I'm now officially a CiT – Consultant in Training (way too many acronyms). I still need to do the practical part where I will do consultant checks of translations under the supervision of a qualified consultant. I'm not in a hurry, as for me consultant checking will make up only a small portion of my work, but hopefully it will be helpful having a few of us qualified. The course was full-on and kept me busy for the full 3 weeks, but I figured if I was excited about the assignments that was a good sign!

The workshop was based in India but run online, so it was a real privilege to be a part of it. It was also a sad reminder of the grief that COVID is causing around the world, as all of the participants and teachers from India knew people who have died. We are so fortunate to be able to go into lockdown because of just a few cases.

Give thanks that several translators from my organisation could join the course, and pray that it will enable more Scripture to be published in Australia. Pray also for everyone around the world suffering pain and grief because of COVID.
