Avoiding biblical jargon
At chapel at Nungalinya College one morning the passage was Mark 2:18-22 and the person running it began by asking for different reasons people might go without food. An Aboriginal man suggested "fasting" as a reason, so the speaker asked what that means. "When you go to hospital and have an operation."
And that is why we try to avoid biblical jargon in the Plain English Version (PEV).
Changing the FORM (words and sentence structure) of the Bible is not "tampering with the Word of God," but conveying the wrong MEANING because the form has not been changed would be!

John 14:6 NIV Jesus answered, ‘I am the way and the truth and the life. No-one comes to the Father except through me. ~ John 14:6 PEV
Jesus said, “I am like the road for you. I can take you to my father. And I am the one that says what is true about God. And I am the one that can let people live for ever. I am the only one that can take people to God.

Pray for wisdom for all of us involved in translating the PEV and putting it through all the necessary checks, so that it will be understood correctly by those reading it.
