I love having young, enthusiastic, tech savvy volunteers visit. (If you'd like to volunteer a week of your time and learn more about Bible translation, let me know!)
In September, Abbey, a graphic design graduate and illustrator from Melbourne, visited for 10 days and was a huge help! She did things that had been on my to-do list for over a year, and in a tenth of the time they would have taken me, as well as helping a couple of colleagues.
Abbey wrote, “I recently had the pleasure of heading up to Darwin for a short trip to Volunteer at the AuSIL/Wycliffe office. It was so good to meet up with Kathy and the team there in-person, help out with some illustration and design work, and see how God is working through his people in Indigenous Bible translation. Being able to work on a variety of different art and design jobs while I was there opened my eyes to a few more of the many avenues where I can use my design skills in a Christian ministry context. Everyone was so welcoming and I had a fantastic time volunteering, meeting lots of people and exploring the Darwin area too - I hope to visit again in the future!”
I also had a work experience student visit recently. It was great having a capable willing worker on hand! She made a video, typed up translations, found Plain English Version (PEV) Bible verses for a book, made cups of tea, and had a go at some PEV translation. Below is a poster she made (her own calligraphy) of the Proverb she translated. See if you recognise the verse.
