In my blood it runs

I recently watched the film In my blood it runs. It's a documentary about a 10 year old Aboriginal boy in Alice Springs struggling with school and town-life in the context of his traditional upbringing. It was a great way to learn more about what life can be like for some Indigenous kids.

The boy that the film is about addressed the UN last year. You can hear what he said here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b8JpUUWYumw

The film was also a great way to see how some Indigenous Australians use English in their cultural context. When the boy's great-grandma was ready for him to go home one day, she said, "You can come again next time." It's amazing how meaningful such a meaningless statement can be. We definitely need a polite phrase to say, "I'm ready for you to leave now." So useful!

Please pray that all Australians will be more aware of the challenges that Indigenous Australians can face, and that laws, policies and programs across the nation will help empower Indigenous people.
