Gaining insight from Proverbs

Translation consultant training in practice

As part of my translation consultant training (to be able to sign off other Bible translations) I'm checking a couple of chapters of Proverbs in a South Asian language, under the supervision of an experienced consultant. So far it's been easier than I expected – probably because, unlike Australian languages, this language has plenty of abstract nouns!

The verses below are from the back translation (a literal English rendering of the translation) of Proverbs 2:2-5.

If you have interest to hear words of prudence, ... If you truly apply to gain insight, ... If you search for knowledge as you search for silver, ... Then you will understand what is the devotionful fear of the Supreme Lord.

Give thanks for the opportunity to do some supervised consultant checking, and pray for more opportunities so that I can become qualified and help more Australian languages get Scripture translations published.
